If you look around on the web, many people are quite upset at Rebecca Black, but this time for another reason (instead of just releasing a ridiculous song). Out of no where, an "original version" of her song surfaced by award-winning composer Bob Dylan.
The YouTube video of the apparent original sports a classic 7-inch 45rpm record with Dylan's name on it and the song title Friday. It's absolutely amazing the spark this caused against Rebecca Black with everyone wanting to know if she actually stole the lyrics to the tune. Popular web sites like Yahoo! Answers has people wondering if it's true or not, and even the actual YouTube video has people fighting over if it's really Dylan or not.
Even official gossip/news web sites have contradicting reports. The Cinch Review has an article stating that the Dylan version is real, and Ms. Black is planning a follow-up for a second tune. However, The Hollywood Gossip says the "original" by Bob Dylan is a fake.
Personally? I did my homework and went straight to the source (duh?) at http://www.bobdylan.com and looked at his official song list... "Friday" no where to be found. So who is this new viral version benefiting? The fake didn't use his real name, obviously, so clearly not him. So who thinks it is a stunt by Black's people to draw more attention to her song? Me. With close to 62,000,000 views in a single month, I think this thing has the potential to be the most watched video on YouTube. What do you think?
Check out the "Bob Dylan original":
WOW! Way to go on the investigation, JP. I completely bought into the Bob Dylan hype behind the song. I did not even think to check into it. I think your theory is probably right, though that Rebecca Black's camp may have put out the "Dylan" version to draw more attention to her video. That is a low blow though. The Dylan version speaks to the Vietnam War and seems so powerful, while Black's version is just a pointless song. I think that would make Rebecca Black look shallow and naive, not necessarily the image her camp wanted her to have. In any case, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
