This week while reading Engaged by Brian Solis, he discussed a term that I hear a lot in the "radio world"... demographics. However, I never really thought that demographics would apply to social media. In radio you hear about your target market that you are trying to reach. For the station that I work for, it's women ages 21-35, or better known as the "Soccer Mom". The lady who's a full time mom, grabs the kids from school and drops them off at practice. She's there cheering, but somehow has dinner on the table when she gets home. But on the way of all her traveling, she's listening to us.
But when you think about Social Media, there are so many people involved, I would have never thought that I'm aiming for a certain demographic when I'm tweeting and updating status'. I just feel like you could attract anyone on Facebook and Twitter from ages 1-99, how could you ever control this?
Solis says that by doing this we are building a better communication world for everyone else (by developing demographics that is), and I must say I agree with him.
