KKY Convention/Issues

So I’m writing my post about ONU life in a car with five other people on the way back from a convention. Every year the musical fraternity I’m in (Kappa Kappa Psi) holds a convention for all of the chapters in our district. Overall, that’s about 4,000 people coming together to learn a little more about our fraternity, how to improve their chapters, and for some brotherhood bonding.

This year, we travelled a little further than I would have liked, but it was still a good time. We were in Merrillville Indiana … just about an hour from Chicago. I was able to experience my first Chicago-style pizza, workshops about how to improve the relationship with our adviser, and a really cool pool.

On a serious note, I was really excited about this workshop on how to improve our relationship with our adviser. Lately I feel like our chapter has been going through this problem where our adviser shoots down every idea we come up with, without a reason as to why, or even hearing us out. It’s a little irritating at time, and even though I know he’s looking out for our best interests, sometimes I just wish he’d let us learn things and experience things on our own. Know what I mean?

Our adviser also seems to have this problem lately where he is willing to violate the constitution that we’ve set so that it benefits him, and not the chapter. Again, I know what his ideas are and why he does things, but sometimes don’t you have to follow rules.

Anyway, I don’t want to turn this into a dissing session about a single person, but I’m wondering if anyone else on campus is dealing with the same thing in any of their organizations, and is there a way to help fix this problem?
