Becoming Engaged with Engaged

Dorky title I know, but I didn't know what else to call it.

Okay so I'm not going to lie, I didn't get a chance to do the other reading that we were required to do, only Engaged by Solis. So, sorry Aggy, the New Influencers wasn't at the book store so it's on it's way.

Anyway, let's dig in to this book. I feel like a lot of this chapter was all about how to engage with the type of people you need to... engage with. If that makes sense? A year or so ago the group of radio stations I work for hopped onto the facebook/twitter bandwagon and we were required to do a lot of research on the media if we wanted to be able to "post". One of the biggest things was ... people don't want to hear official messages that sell their product. They want to ... get to know the person behind the post.

On page 6, Solis says that, "Communication, whether inbound or outbound is now powered by conversations..." and I think when it comes to what you are conveying through your social media, that is the best thing that we can learn. Like I said earlier, I want to connect with the people, not just hear about what they're selling, or ways I can get deals... find something special, and connect to me.

Okay, that's all I have to say about my readings for this week. Hopefully I can catch up with The New Influencers for next week...

  1. I definitely agree with you, JP. I think that having your target market know who you are and be able to connect with you is critically important. Consumers and people in general like to feel like they are important and that they're not just another number. Businesses need to keep this in mind because no one wants to have just products and prices told to them. Consumers want interaction, which is exactly why social media is so successful. These websites allow that connection that you were talking about where the customers can feel like they know the owners or workers behind the products and and services that they will buy. Because social media allows this connection, the companies that take advantage of them should be more successful, when they can utilize this resource correctly. I think that customers would be more likely to buy from and be attracted to businesses that allow feedback and complaints and a place where you can feel more of a part of that business.
